Thomas Baugus (Bauguess), son of James BAUGUS (BAUGUESS) & Mary TURNER, was born June 19, 1827, in Wilkes Co., NC, and died Mar. 4, 1914, in Alleghany Co., NC. He married (1) Beulah "Buley" Higgins, daughter of John HIGGINS & Susan EDWARDS, Aug. 7, 1851, in Ashe Co., NC. She was born Oct. 9, 1833, in Ashe Co., NC, and died Mar. 26, 1868, in Alleghany Co., NC. He married (2) Susan Ann Vaughn, daughter of Minitree J. VAUGHN & Nancy Jane MOORE, Oct. 3, 1869, in Alleghany Co., NC. She was born Sept. 20, 1848, in Tennessee, and died May 24, 1890, in Alleghany Co., NC.  Beulah Higgins is buried at the John Higgins Cemetery, located off Road 1453, Alleghany Co., NC.  Thomas and Susan Higgins are buried at the Mountain View Baptist Church, Road 1463, Alleghany Co., NC.

Notes

Thomas Baugus or Bauguess was the son of James Bauguess, Sr., and Mary Turner of Wilkes County, NC.  James Bauguess was the son of Richard Bauguess (Boggess) who came to Wilkes County from Loudon County, VA, in the late 1780's.  Richard Bauguess married twice and had 22 children including James Sr., born about 1775.  Most the Bauguess family originally lived on the Roaring River in the Traphill district of Wilkes County.  James' son Thomas Baugus (born 1827) married his first cousin (once removed) Beulah Higgins in 1851 and settled in Glade Creek Township of Ashe (Alleghany) County.  Beulah Higgins was the granddaughter of John Higgins and Fanny Bauguess (sister of James Bauguess, Sr.)  Beulah, mother of 7 children, died in 1868.  Thomas remarried to Susan Ann Vaughn and had 6 more children.  Thomas died in 1914 at the age of 86.
