William Thomas Choate, Sr.,
& Martha "Patsy" Fender

William Thomas Choate, Sr., son of Richard "Dickie" CHOATE & Sarah EDWARDS, was born Jan. 28, 1832, in Ashe Co., NC, and d. June 4, 1864, in the Battle of Cold Harbor, VA. He married Martha "Patsy" Fender, daughter of John FENDER & Martha TOLIVER, Apr. 3, 1851, in Ashe Co., NC. She was born Feb. 13, 1836, in Ashe Co., NC, and died Nov. 30, 1897, in Alleghany Co., NC. William T. Choate is buried at the Oakwood Military Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Martha remarried to Levi WILLEY and is buried at the Pleasant Home Union Baptist Church in Alleghany Co., NC.

Civil War: William CHOATE was a Captain in Co. I, 61st NC Infantry. He enlisted on May 3, 1862 in Alleghany Co., NC. Commissioned Capt. on Jan. 3, 1863. Mortally wounded in action at Cold Harbor, VA, and died on June 4, 1864.
