David Cox, Jr., was born in the part of Montgomery County, VA, that became Wythe County in 1790, and Grayson County in 1799.  His family lived on the New River a few miles from the North Carolina state line.  David Cox, Jr. later moved across the state line into Ashe (later Alleghany) County, NC, and settled on Moccasin Creek and the Little River near the Cheek family.  According to The Cox Family in America (1912) by Henry Miller Cox, p.52, David Cox married a woman with the last name of REEVES.  A series of deeds from Grayson Co., VA, identify her as one of the daughters of George REEVES, Sr.  (See Grayson Co., VA, DB 3, pp.59, 89; DB 4, p.73; DB 6, p.468; and other deeds abstracted in Alleghany Historical-Genealogical Society Bulletin, Vol. 13, No. 2 (June 1991).)

David Cox's 1857 will names four children: Pegga, wife of John GAMBILL; Jane, wife of John KROUSE (CROUSE); George R. COX; John R. COX; and a grandson, David Reid COX, son of George R. COX.
