Martin Jennings, son of William M. JENNINGS & Martha JOINES, was born Apr. 4, 1829, in Wilkes Co., NC, and died June 2, 1915, in Surry Co., NC. He married Frances Toliver, daughter of Starling TOLIVER & Millie Ann SPURLIN, abt. 1852. She was born Mar. 18, 1834, in Ashe Co., NC, and died Jan. 25, 1892, in Alleghany Co., NC. Martin and Frances Jennings are buried at the Gum Orchard Baptist Church (a.k.a. Zephyr Missionary Baptist Church) in Surry Co., NC.

Oct. 30, 1851. Martin Jennings was a witness of William Jennings' will. (Ashe Co., NC, WB D, p.33).  On Apr. 1, 1859, Martin Jennings signed a receipt for his share of the proceeds of the sale of William Jennings' land. (Estate of William Jenings, NC Archives File No. CR.006.508.16).

Note: Technically, a will shouldn't be witnessed by a beneficiary, but this rule was often ignored in the 18th and 19th centuries.
