Samuel McKnight, son of Nicholas MCKNIGHT & Mary "Polly" BLEVINS, was born Aug. 14, 1846, in Grayson Co., VA, and d. Dec. 27, 1923, in Alleghany Co., NC. He married Lucinda Cheek, daughter of Richard M. CHEEK & Frances "Frankie" CROUSE, abt. 1868. She was born Jan. 17, 1844, in Ashe Co., NC, and d. Feb. 4, 1934, in Alleghany Co., NC. Samuel and Lucy McKnight are buried at the Pleasant Home Union Baptist Church, Road 1112, Alleghany Co., NC.

Notes

Obituary of Samuel McKnight

SAMUEL MCKNIGHT was born Aug. 14, 1846 and died Dec. 27, 1923 making his stay here 77 years, 4 months and 13 days. He was married to Lucy Cheek, Jan. 14, 1867.

Samuel was the oldest of a family of 8 children. He was known for his kind, gentle, jovial dispotion. Father, mother, brothers and sisters knew him only as a noble, dutiful son and brother.

When the war broke out between the states duty called Samuel to the defence of his beloved southland. He made an excellent soldier as can be shown by his enviable record.

Samuel joined the Baptist church in 1868. In 1895 his membership was transferred Pleasant Home church where he remained a faithful member until death.

He is survived by a wife, two brothers, John and Andrew, (one brother, Thomas Jefferson having preceded him in death in 1907), four sisters, Mrs. Nancy Kirby, Mrs. Phoebe Edwards, Mrs. Matilda Davis, Mrs. Polly Davis. Samuel's father, Nicholas McKnight preceded him in death in 1894 and his mother, Polly in 1867.
