James Asberry Smith, probably the son of Seamon SMITH & Mary, last name unknown, was born May 6, 1846, in Davie Co., NC, and d. Dec. 26, 1920, in Alleghany Co., NC. He married Juliana Blevins, daughter of John J. BLEVINS & Pinkey CHEEK, May 4, 1868, in Alleghany Co., NC. She was born May 24, 1849, in Ashe Co., NC, and died Oct. 17, 1930, in Alleghany Co., NC. James and Juliana Smith are buried at the Rector Cemetery, also known as the Old Smith Cemetery, Road 1439, Ennice, Alleghany Co., NC.

James Asberry Smith was a farmer and a shoemaker in Alleghany County, NC.  He was probably the son of Seamon (or Seamont) SMITH and wife Mary who are listed in the 1850 Census of Davie County, NC.  James Asberry Smith's death certificate states that his father was named "Semon Smith." According to the 1850 census, Seamont Smith of Davie County was a shoemaker by trade and had a son named Asberry.  In 1860, Seamon Smith and his family were living in Grayson County, VA.  The Blevins family lived in northeastern Alleghany County, NC, just across the state line from Grayson County, VA.
