Hardin Reeves was born Oct. 11, 1816, and died May 7, 1903, in Alleghany Co., NC. He married Frances "Frankie" Toliver, daughter of Solomon TOLIVER & Margaret Ann BLEVINS. She was born Dec. 6, 1827, in Ashe Co., NC, and died Oct. 3, 1895 in Alleghany Co., NC.

ardin Reeves is said to be the son of Margaret
"Peggy" COX (daughter of Johsua McGowan COX & Ruth
OSBORNE) and either Jesse REEVES or George REEVES. Several
sources indicate that Margaret "Peggy" Cox married
Jesse Reeves, but according to The Cox Family in America
by H.M. Cox (1912), p.56, Peggie COX married (1st) George REEVES
and (2) Charles H. DOUGHTON, the Ashe county surveyor. This
source states that Peggie had five children by her first husband:
Hardin REEVES (m. "Francis Taliaferro"), Joshua REEVES,
Enoch REEVES, Jane REEVES (m. unk. DOUGHTON), and Cynthia REEVES
(m. Cloyd COX). Peggie married (2nd) Charles H. DOUGHTON
and had three more children, Fleming, Joseph B., and Jesse
DOUGHTON. The children of Hardin REEVES & "Frances
Taliaferro" were Melvin, Joshua, and Cleveland.
Otherwise I have not been able to find much information on Hardin Reeves. Based on an 1859 deed recorded in Alleghany County, NC, Hardin REEVES was one of the heirs of Jesse REEVES (Alleghany DB 1:182). The other heirs listed in the deed are George D. REEVES, Joshua REEVES, Enoch C. REEVES, Isom REEVES, Cloyd COX & his wife Cynthia, and Jane DOUGHTON. At least some of these appear to be Hardin's brothers and sisters, based on the list given in The Cox Family in America. Therefore, this deed suggests that Hardin's father was actually named Jesse, not George. There is a Jesse Reeves who who died about 1833 in Ashe County, NC, leaving a will that names names wife Mary, sons Jesse B., Alexander, Charles, John, and Eli, and daughters Jane BAKER and Elizabeth COX. This must have been a different Jesse REEVES. Further research is needed.
