Nash Cheek, son of John CHEEK & Susanna ESTRIDGE (ESTES), was born Aug. 29, 1823, in Orange Co., NC, and died Nov. 22, 1904, in Durham Co., NC. He married Margaret Alice Bishop, daughter of James BISHOP & Cynthia CARROLL, Sept. 17, 1844, Orange Co., NC. She was born Feb. 25, 1824, in Orange Co., NC, and died Dec. 28, 1913, in Durham Co., NC. Nash and Margaret are buried at the Maplewood Cemetery in Durham Co., NC.

Notes

Nash Cheek was a Baptist preacher. According to his obituary, "Being gifted in exhortation, singing and prayer, he was very useful in revivals and his help was much sought in protracted meetings."  The obituary also states that he was born Aug. 29, 1823, and died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 1904, in his 82nd year, leaving his wife (age 79), five sons and three daughters living. He also had a son who died at age 2 and a daughter who died at age 20. His mother lived to be 102 years old.

Additional info about this family is reportedly from Nash Cheek's family Bible which at one time was in the possession of Mrs. Ronald Young of Raleigh, NC.

June 10, 1868. Orange Co., NC. Wm. A. GUTHRIE of Cumberland Co., Trustee of Nash CHEEK and John W. CARR of Orange Co., on basis of Deed of Trust of Jan 21, 1867, did on Feb 1, 1868, sell a "lot in Village of Chapel Hill whereon Nash CHEEK now lives" adjoining John H. WEAVER and Mrs. SILER; John W. CARR was high bidder at $260.00 (Orange DB 39, p.101).
